The Austrian Chamber of Agriculture is currently urgently advising Austrian forest owners and foresters to stop regular logging activities.
The reason is the strong import restrictions in Italy, which apply from March 25 to April 3, 2020. Only packaging and wood pellets are allowed to enter the country. Accordingly, the Austrian transport of sawn timber to Italy comes to a standstill. Wood chips are also affected.
The Austrian sawmill industry is therefore forced to severely restrict production and in some cases to stop it.
Deliveries of wood to the sawmills will therefore no longer be possible. Forestry industry is obliged to only carry out urgently necessary production and removal of damaged trees.
